Manuka Honey

All honey is antiseptic, but it was Dr. Peter Molan of Waikato University of New Zealand who discovered that Manuka honey had unique antibacterial properties not found in other honeys (Molan and Russel, 1998.) Since that discovery, Manuka honey has gained a worldwide reputation for its special properties.

Manuka honey is often referred to as the 'healing honey'. The honey is collected from the flowers of the Manuka tree, the New Zealand Tea Tree. Manuka has been used as a medicinal plant for centuries and is a powerful antibiotic, anti-inflammatory as well as antisceptic and can be used internally and externally, making an excellent dressing for wounds. It also tastes good to eat - dark and rich!

Comvita's Standard 4-9 Active Manuka Honey has a level of anti-bacterial activity strong enough to soothe cuts, burns and skin grazes, as well as minor digestive problems.

Unique Manuka Factor - Manuka honey is available in different strengths according to its Unique Manuka Factor (UMF). The honey has to be tested to determine its UMF ie. its measure of anti-bacterial strength. Testing is carried out at an independent laboratory...the honey itself is cold pressed in an environmentally controlled honey processing facility.

Comvita's extra strength honey, with its guaranteed UMF of 10, 15, 20 or 25 offers you the opportunity to choose the UMF, according to the need. The Active 10+ has two and a half times the power of standard antiseptic and so the 15+ and 20+ are even more powerful. The higher the UMF grading, the stronger and faster acting the anti-bacterial action becomes.

Manukacare Factor 18+ is raw, sterilized honey in a tube and is specifically for external use where its strong anti-bacterial activity can be highly effective. Comvita have also produced a UMF 18+ impregnated dressing. The 18+ honey is impregnated into highly absorbent alginate fibre dressings and so is ideal for dressing wounds. The dressings are 10cm x 10cm, and so perfect for cutting down to size. This product is also medically licensed in the UK.

Propolis

Propolis comes from the natural resin and sap produced by trees and shrubs. Honey bees collect these materials and bring them back to the hive packed onto their hind legs, in a similar manner to bee pollen. Because the resin bees collect is so sticky, they add beeswax to it so that they can move it around and work with it in the hive. Bees use Propolis to seal up gaps and cracks in the colony nest, and to embalm intrudes such as mice who are too large to be moved out of the colony nest. Propolis is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and an anesthetic. It contains more than 180 compounds, most importantly Flavonoids and can be used by humans.

Propolis is an antioxidant and liver purifier. The normal Standardized Tincture and Tincture Extract are for the general wellness maintenance and help to boost the immune system, whereas the High Potency Propolis products can be used when the need is more acute. Propolis is available in creams, ointments, lip balm and soaps in order that they are applied topically, and for internal use try our lozengers, throat spray, herbal elixir, tablets and honey.

Bee Pollen

Bee Pollen is best known for its effect on the immune system, particularly its fight against allergies. Another of nature's superfoods, Bee Pollen is good for digestive disorders, because of its rich supply of nucleic acids, DNA and RNA. Scientific tests have shown pollen to be useful for stimulating appetite and stabilising weight. It is also more nutritious than meat, cheese and eggs, high in iron and has twice the calcium of milk. Stir into soft foods, sprinkle on cereals or add to drinks.

Apitherapy Apimist

Apitherapy Apimist is the honey that has it all...Apimist is a unique food supplement that combines Royal Jelly, Propolis and Pollen in a base of Pure honey. It is nutritious and an immune boosting antibacterial, antiviral and energising super honey.
